So today I adjusted the valves on my Slant - my first time. Not too bad, it took some getting used to trying to put the socket on the adjuster while the motor was running, but I did it. Also, I think I inhaled a bunch of motor oil smoke - Cough Cough Cough. Anyhow, I noticed that some of the rocker arms were able to slide back and forth on the shaft - left and right play. Is this normal? |

Yep, there is a little 'side play' on a stock set.... If you have a lot of it (3/16"?)...then you might grab a couple spare rocker shafts at the local junkyard and 'mix and match' a tighter set (and if really persnickety...you can use a caliper to measure the length of the rocker arms to better match the lengths better if looking for a more uniform ratio...) -D.Idiot |

I had the same issue on my slant (it was kinda bad in some spots). I used small block Chrysler rocker arm shims in different thicknesses to adjust mine. Works good if you want to go that route. |
