Has anyone used the Billet timing set from JP. It looks like a very nice piece and has 9 key ways, for less money than the factory double roller set.

I am thinking about getting one. Thanks,

Rick

That quality was actually what I was expecting when I got in on the Cloyes buy-in a while back. Had I know the Cloyes was going to be a cast gear instead of billet. like their other timing sets, I would have gotten the JP set instead.....still might.

I used one on my truck and its going back on the new engine. Craftsmanship was excellent and very sturdy, just the bottom gear was kind of tight. When I took it off my engine it had zero stretch after 10,000 miles.

I definitely recommend them.

When I pulled mine off the last engine I had it on, it left some scratches on the crank snout because it was so tight. Otherwise, it was a good setup for the price.

Bottom Gears And Balancers being tight are nothing new... Just a bit of fine sandpaper or a light grit roll on a dremel can take car of that.

The Cloyes crank gear comes off easily with a sprocket puller or a little heat... and went on easily with some judicious heating with a torch...The JP sprocket doesn't like to let go with the sprocket puller without 15 minutes and a torch...(doesn't make for easy timing changes using the added crank key ways...)

The scratches left over from the last pull didn't come out with some casual polishing using 400-500 grit emery cloth...I started with 150 grit worked back down to 500...That engine has a cloyes set on it, it went together without a struggle...

It's really tight, FYI.

More Dremel needed Before instalation..

I wonder what the Correct interfencerce fit is for these parts...

Time to measure some old factory timing gears removed from cranks and some old cranks to see..

Once we get that measurement we can then hone or hog out the Replacement parts before Heating and beating them on.

Greg, i've had to hone many of the billet Cloyes crank gears on Chevy's and Ford engines, they recommend .0015 of interference. I have also had to do the same thing with Fluidamperâ„¢ and other balancer crank hubs, so it isn't uncommon to have to do that.
