| Post subject: | Holley 1945 Questions |
My car, a 1980 Volare, starts and idles great but it seems to have a surge at cruise and it also stumbles when taking off from a stop. Other than these two things it seems to work pretty well. It is a rebuilt carb that was on the car when I bought it. I am thinking the stumble may be the accelerator pump. Anyone know a source for these? I haven't been able to locate one. I was thinking that the surge at cruise may have been caused by it running lean but I'm not sure that is the case. I have read other posts where people are running a 57 main jet and mine had a 67 in it. I changed to a 70 and then down to a 64 which is the smallest I had in my kit and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. I checked all the vacuum lines for leaks and I believe they are all good. Thanks in advance for any advice on these problems. |

Go to rockauto.com and get a standard/hygrade carb kit. The pump diaphragm/plunger comes in the kit. Is this carb the original for the car or a reman? |

#57 or #58 is OK in a 1920. #58 was standard in the 1974 1945, mopar changed the settings and the jet to a #61 in 1976... -D.Idiot |

The carb had a reman sticker on it so it's not the original one. I'll pick up a carb kit and see what that does for it. Thanks for the replies. |
