The gauge voltage regulator on my '64 Valiant is finally dying. It is built into the fuel gauge. I remember seeing instructions on how to build a replacement using solid state parts, or using the newer separate regulator from a later model (if still available?). Can anyone point me to this information of restate it? |

Yes, thanks. The article states that a regulator out of a 67 can be used. Does anyone know how late this external regulator was used? It's as hard to get 67 parts as it is 64. |

I know that Mopar Action had an article on replacement using a solid-state 5V regulator (Radio Shack for $1) about 2-3 years ago. You might check their website. I will see if I can find my copy too. Lou |

I can tell you how to hook it up if you like... what you are looking for is a 7805, +5v 3 pin regulator. they are cheap, as mentioned can be had for less then a buck. It is about as big as a bottlecap, and has a metal tab with a hole through it , the black square body, and 3 metal legs coming out of it. If you are looking at the front of it where the writing is, and the tab is up, the left pin should go to +12v (input), the middle pin (also same as the tab ontop) is ground, and the right pin is the +5v output that would go to your gauges. make sure all connections are insulated, including the tab. If you'd like I can draw something up so you can see it pictorially. |

The regulator you want is a Sorensen IVR3 or equiv. I have had no trouble finding these. I guess I need to make a kit for the electronic version, since my first career was in electronics
