I have a 64 truck with about 75k miles on it. It just started making a rattling noiise when in first gear - not pulling, not holding back, just coasting. Rattle, Rattle Rattle. Push the clutch and it stops, push the gas and it stops. Going down a hill where it's holding the truck back and it makes no noise. Does the front bearing wear out at 70k on these transmissions? Thanks, Danny |

This may just be the main gears slapping back and forth as the engine and driveshaft swap load surfaces on the gears. AFAIK, my T5s have always made this noise. W/o hearing it, it's hard to say. If it's loud, then you might be dealing with a main or input or countershaft bearing?? Is this a ball & trunion driveshaft on an 833 4spd trans? If so, I have 2 of them in my garage that I just acquired. Lou |

Is 1st gear straight cut or helical? I can see straight cut gears rattling.... |
