Post subject:  Anyone running Hooker Super Comp Headers?

Hello:

I'd like to hear from anyone who is running Hooker Super Comp headers and what you've done with the system from the header back and how you like it. I'm planning on using a pipe off of each header with each pipe having its own muffler (a true duals system). I'll also be using a X-style cross over as well.

Thanks,

- EM

I'll be watching this thread. You saved me from asking the same question.

Yes. 3 tubes into one times 2, Hooker Super Comp.

Do they clear everything well. Like starter, shifter linkage....etc? Not trying to hi jack a thread, just asking questions that will probably help others too.

Tony, if you're driving on the street, give strong consideration to Dutra Duals instead of headers.

with dutra dual you wouldn`t have to worry about ground clearence.

Yes, I will be "street only". Those are nice! Are they headers? I wanted to run duals, which I can see I can do with those. I wanted a little more power, "not for racing", just for normal use.

If that's your goal, and you're reworking the exhaust and want duals, then definitely make it Dutras rather than headers.

They go well with a 2bbl swap (done right -- those 2bbl to 1bbl "adaptors" aren't the right way to do it)
Are you more of a "buy parts and bolt them on" guy or a "fabricate/modify as needed" kind of guy?

Other upgrades worth looking at include HEI upgrade. But start with the basics. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. See to the valve adjustment. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download.

(apologies if this isn't the first time I've sent you those links)

What the heck you got in that thing? That's a badass motor.

Here are some pics of system I built, headers fit good only clearance problem at power brake booster, no problem with low ground clearance. May want to have them ceramic coated, I have painted them once a year]

Very similar to what I was envisioning. Nice job.

I'm also curious, when I clicked on your pictures it took me to "Imageshack" and while looking at the exhaust system, I saw a slant 6 with what appears to be a Paxton Novi supercharger. In fact, everything I can see externally on that engie are the same pieces I have. I'd love to learn more about this engine, especially what was done internally and what the outcome is horsepower wise.

Thanks,

- EM

Motor has 2.2 flat top pistons,K1 rods, with the heavy cast crank, homemade windage tray, deep oil pan, 9.8 is static c.r., 264 comp cam, 1.6 rockers, stainless valves,1.70 1.44 polish ported head. Its running 5 lb boost, Im running Mega Squirt, 51 lb injectors, crank trigger, wasted spark ignition, meth injection, intercooled. Car runs really good since I went with the Mega Squirt controlling the ignition, have not had it on a dyno but seat of the pants feels like the 340s I had back in the day, but sounds like a rice burner when you got your foot to the floor. If I had to put a number on it l would say 250 at the crank. Car is driven daily 20 miles plus running around on week ends and gets 17-18 MPG, its 3300lb 4speed od, 4.10 gear, let me know if you need any other specs
