| Post subject: | 67 buildsheet decoding |
Hey guys, we picked the wife up a real nice 67 barracuda notchback over the weekend and the previous owner has two carbs. A Carter and a Holley. He said he couldnt remember which one came on car. We found the buildsheet under the back seat and it is coded "17" for the carb. Anyone know which one it should be? Thanks! Also, the car was missing the throttle linkage, the bracket and the kickdown. We are interested in purchasing this stuff if anyone has it. Thanks, Steve |

Welcome on the board. Maybe your first Slant-6 car? If so: Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. As for the carb: with 225 engine in '67, original would have definitely been a Holley, assuming it is not a Canadian-market car in which case it could have been a Carter. This does not, however, mean that the Holley is necessarily the best choice. The best pick of the two is the one that can be brought up to best possible condition. Often there are better results refurbishing a Carter BBS than a Holley 1920. Throttle linkage parts you are after can be replaced by parts from any '67 or later 1bbl slant-6. The '69-up setup is better (safer). |

Thanks very much for the info. Yes this is our first /6 car. I have a 69 Charger R/T SE that I am currently building a blown stroker for. This /6 car is a California car if that matters. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

California car means it would originally have been equipped with CAP, the Clean Air Package. Special carburetor, special distributor, and a distributor vacuum advance control valve. No engine bay picture -- rest of car looks great! -- so I can't tell if distributor valve is still present, but if you are trying for a numbers-matching restoration, you'll need that valve, which also happens to do nice things for driveability. I think I may have a spare. Original carburetor on your '67 225 Barracuda would have been a Holley 1920, type number R3672A (automatic transmission) or R3671A (manual transmission). |

This is the sticker on the passenger side fenderwell, talkes about a "KAR-KIT" and how to set timing. ![]() Distributor. All I see on it is the vacuum canister. ![]() And as you can see I am missing all the linkage. I removed the Carter and I will get the Holley from my buddy. Which carb do you think is best? ![]()

Oog. The car's been mangled by the State of California. Fortunately the damage is not severe and you can easily undo it. California passed a law in 1971 or so requiring many existing cars to be retrofitted with a state-approved NOx emission control device. It did not matter that Chrysler Corp vehicles already had very effective emission control devices from the factory; the law did not discern makes and models, just model years and registration due dates. The Kar-Kit was the cheapest and nastiest such retrofit device; it consisted of the label you found under the hood, another for the dashboard, and two vacuum nipple caps made of rubber. Instructions were to remove vacuum advance hose, use pliers to crush carb and distributor vacuum advance hose nipples, install rubber caps on crushed nipples, apply decals. Eliminating the vacuum advance reduced NOx emissions and eliminated most acceleration. Also caused overheating. Check whether the installer actually crushed the nipples. If not, reinstall hose from carburetor to distributor and remove the labels. Original vacuum advance control valve can be reinstalled later if you like. Not sure what you mean by "I see there are a couple different Holleys", please explain. |

No the vacuum canister tube is not crushed and the advance hose was up to the carb. I read that theres a Holley 1920 and a 1945. |

See above for the ID of the carb that would be original to your car. The 1945 did not start until 1974. |
