I found this Quote: I pre-lube [dump a bunch of oil in] my oil filter before I put it on the car when chaging oil to cut down on dry time. I think it's called "Technique vs Procedure"! while doing my homework (reading through old threads and hoping to retain useful info).OK, I get that and it sounds good. I've owned two /6es in years long gone and changing the oil filter always resulted in a bunch of oil on the ground. Hardly anyone cared back then, and I certainly didn't. Well, I do now! Fortunately the Az Dart isn't due for an oil change for a while, so I'm looking for y'alls techniques or procedures to keep my driveway clean. I recall way back then I thought about a remote filter location that might be easier to reach and less messy. Has anyone done that? How'd it work out for you? ATB BC |

Every right-hand drive slant-6 car came with a remote oil filter from the factory. Most of them are easier to reach/change than the on-pump filter, but you are trading one issue for another: you can't really pre-fill the on-pump filter because you have to turn it upside down to mount it, but the lines to and from the remote filter will either be full of dirty oil or air. Zero-sum, I think. Me, I don't worry much about this. Use a good quality filter and appropriately-chosen oil (not too heavy a weight, this is a very common error) and just don't rev the engine until the oil light goes off. Remember, since 1960 Slant-6 engines have been shrugging off any minor ill effects of "OMG the new oil filter's empty!" measures. They're not exactly known for short life...! |

I hadn't thought of that, but zero-sum sounds right. What I remember from those long-ago slants was dumping the filter full of used oil on the ground. A remote filter with the can on the bottom would cure that.ATB BC |

The filter with the built-in standpipe seems like it would dump less oil on the ground. I just make sure to get my drain pan in the right spot. |

I run a duel remote filter with a oil cooler with no problems, mounted filters by cooler on bumper, bought everything from summit racing, I use steel braided line with AN fittings didn't like the rubber hose, barb fittings with hose clamps that came with relocation kit, hears a pic
