Hi slant sixers.

Some background:
I have a 1963 Australian AP5 valiant. 225 with 904.
This will be a daily driver .
The engine had a knock after fulll operating temperature was reached.
I believe I purchased the car with the knock.
Anyway I pulled down the engine after some tests ,and the cam is cactus.
Possibly was not broke in properly.

The bearings and other components have very little wear.
This strengthens my opinion that the engine must have had a re -build not long before the knock developed.
Hence the previous owner selling the vehicle.

The cam bearings seem to be in good condition.

However the holes in the bearings dont line up with oil holes in the bearing bore.
the holes are about 1/3 exposed.

Now the FSM says that "The camshaft bearing oil hole must be in exact alignment with the drilled oil passage from the main bearing."
A local mopar business owner /guru suggests that holes half exposed is ok.
What does the slant six forum say?
Would having the holes half exposed help to increase oil pressure?
Should i have new bearings pressed?
This would be the only machine shop work I need.

Thanks in advance.
Brendan

No good. That will cause insufficient oil volume not only to the cam but also to the top end of the engine (valvetrain).

Yes, I recall the top was not getting what I thought was enough lubricant.

Looks like a clean, straight AP5! I've always preferred the AP5 over the US '63 Valiant.

And yeah, show us your S!
