Post subject:  misfire under load

Hi all. My 85 d100 is finally running pretty decent after upgrading the ignition to a Mopar ecu from the stock lean burn. The charcoal canister is shot and the air pump is missing so I went ahead and removed all emissions from the truck and made a new 2.25 exhaust for it. Initial timing is now set at 8° egr is disconnected.

Again the truck is running better than ever but I still have a small gremlin that is once it's warmed up I have random misfires during acceleration. If I let up they will go away. If I go wot it seems to lessen. Seams a little lean to me. I've been told I probably wouldn't be satisfied with the stock 1945 on it. Does this sound like a lean condition? Can I jet up this carb to make it work or should I hold out for a better carb? Also the problem does not seem to occur when cold with choke engaged.

Sounds like a lean out, you might check for vacc leaks first to rule that out.

Then you might see what jet is in the carb...I would set it up jet and linkage settings to be a 1976 1945 (#61 jet), bet it's set like a 1974.

Shouldn't have any vac leaks, It did but I think they're all fixed. I replaced intake gasket, base gasket and all vacume lines are capped with exception to the advance can and pcv. The throttle shaft is a little loose for my liking. I'll spray some carb cleaner on it and check there.

You mentioned changing the linkange to earlier, can to elaborate on that? I'll check the jet size this weekend.

Since you're going to need a rebuild kit to replace the gasket once you lookk at the main jet, it will have the various settings for the rods and levers on the exterior of the carb...if you find the carb is jetted lean, and yoiu chage to the #61, you should also make sure the rest of the carb settings match that year in particular.
