| Post subject: | Choke Vacuum Diaphragm, did I kill it? |
Hey guys, Long story short, I followed my dad's advise (bad idea) and soaked my entire 2bbl carter in a bucket of carb cleaner before rebuilding (fully assembled). This means the choke vacuum diaphragm was soaking in that stuff for 3 days. After being rinsed and dried out for months now, should it work? Need to know before I install my electric choke if I need to order a replacement. Thanks in advance, Aspen76 |

Yes you ruined it, get a new one (order a rebuild kit). Do Not put any rubber parts in carb cleaner! Richard |

So how 'bout those books…got 'em yet? They contain actual real knowledge and wisdom that would have enabled you to smile and nod and ignore your dad's ignorant advice. |

I didn't get a new one with my rebuild kit I used to rebuild the carter (A Walkerproducts.com kit). Oh well, Walkerproducts.com sells them separately, and I need a new bowl vent cover so that will help justify the shipping. I do have the books, been putting me soundly to sleep every night for over a month now Been reading Stockel first, just finishing the section on manual transmissions. I've been watching ebay for a good deal on the factory manuals but none yet. I think me learning more and more about cars (from this great website) is beginning to show my dad how ignorant he is regarding the subject. For example, he seemed rather upset the other day when I corrected him for thinking turbochargers were electrically power... I think I'll be lending him the books when I'm done, maybe he can fix his own truck then! I had no idea there was rubber in the diaphragm until now, guess at the time I figured it worked by magic (half the car still does Walker sells two, the 101-554 and the 101-553 on this page. Anyway to know which one I should get other then trying to see which one has the appropriate bracket in the picture? I've got a 318 model BBD. Thanks for the help guys, Aspen76 |

The difference is the bracket. Visually match your old one. |
