Post subject:  A couple of install problems

I am putting my engine back in the car today(by myself) and everything is going pretty easy(almost too easy?), when I notice that there is a considerable distance between the flex-plate and torque converter. It wasn't like that when I took it apart. What could be the problem?
I also noticed that the poly motor mounts I installed were seated funny on the drivers side only(passenger side is fine). I did not replace the trans mount as it was in good shape. Any input would be Greatly Appreciated.-Dan

Converter looks normal, pull it forward and bolt it up.

No help on the mount.

got the mount straightened out. loosened it up on both sides and pried it around with a wrecking bar (for leverage only)

the torque converter can move that far(1/4")forward and not cause any problems?

A little longer bolt and I was able to pull the torque converter towards the engine, then switched to the correct size bolts. Tightened up fine.
I hadn't noticed that I missed one of the bolts from the engine to the transmission until I looked at the picture again, and then went and saw the extra bolt in the ziplock! So I try and put it in and it seems as if the holes don't line up?(all the others went in perfectly.(so I thought?)
I tried loosening all the bolts with a floor jack under the transmission, but it still won't line up? Anyone know a trick I am missing? Is there a particular order to putting them back in that works best? The yellow arrow is pointing at the bolt in question.-Thanks Dan

What size bolt thread are you tring to screw into that hole?
The reason I ask is that the photo shows the throttle return spring bracket on one of the bolts for starter mounting, that spring "eye" bracket should be on a "longer" 3/8-16 unc bolt, that goes into the hole you point to. (9/16th hex head)
The starter bolts and the end 2 bell housing bolts are a larger 7/ 16-14 unc thread size. (5/8 hex head)

the (2) on the passenger side, the (1) below the starter and the (1) I am trying to put in the hole marked are all larger 7/ 16-14 unc thread size (5/8 hex head). The bolt in the starter(top) is finer threads and looks as if it has been added at sometime. (Was that originally tapped into the transmission?)

Thanks Doug, you were right on! I was putting them back like they were when I took it apart(WRONG!). The return spring was hooked to the starter and there was no bolt to the transmission behind the starter! Good thing I had a parts car bucket to go to.-Thanks Again
