This is my first post to this forum, thanks in advance for any help I can get. What I'm dealing with on my 68 barracuda is whether or not to run a manual choke on my super six setup. I have the Holley 2bbl #r8691 and I can't do the normal choke that runs off the exhaust manifold because I am installing Clifford headers as well. I'm wondering if a manual choke would impede the performance of the carb if I went down that avenue, which is what I'm kind of leaning towards. Thanks! |

The only way that happens: you forget to engage the choke when starting the car in the morning...then forgetting to take it off after the car has warmed up while driving...Manual choke is fine, just the human component may not be 100% reliable...LOL... -D.Idiot |

Tongue & cheek department: Over the years I have owned as well as driven at work a number of factory equipped manual choke vehicles, and although the human behind the wheel is in complete control of this device, he often fails in its optimal operation. My choice would be an electric choke conversion or such every time, as well as the elimination of manual control of spark advance via lever behind steering wheel by employing a vacuum pod on distributor, and replacing dash mounted hand operated cable constant throttle opening control used as a crude cruise control device… You guessed right, I don’t cotton to hand crank starting at the leading edge of a radiator as well. Yeah, I know it is tough being a modern man in the world of old cars & trucks. LOL Car brochures of late fifties and early sixties touted automatic choke as a selling point for ease of operation, and fuel economy. Just my two cents, Bill |
