Post subject:  Hardened Valve Seats w/ Oversized Valves....??

Hi Everyone,
Recently picked up a ported head with 1.78" intake and 1.45" exhaust valves. Question:....based on other's past experiences with oversized valves, is there still enough room to install hardened valve seats..?? I need to make a decision to either go ahead and try to install the seats or leave it alone and install it as is. If I don't install the hardened seats, how long do you think I would have before the valves receeded ? The Dart is a part time or fair weather driver...!! Thanks for the input...!!

"Part time, fair weather driver". You'll be dead from old age before you'd have a problem. My daily driver, extensively drag raced motor has 2 full seasons and 30+thousand miles without hard seats and without problems.

I agree with Dennis, run it "as is". If you really want to have a little extra insurance, use some fuel attitive to help protect the valve seats. I only use the stuff when I am racing or working the engine hard. (high speed freeway driving)
You will know if or when the seats start to recede, the valve lash on the exhaust valves will start to tighten-up and the idle will be rough. You readjust the valves and they tighten-up again, time to do harden seats at that point.
Intake valves do not have this issue, only the exhaust valves.
