I am planning to install the stand pipes in the lifter galley and need to know what to do with the hole in the front of the block that takes oil to the timing chain (I guess) from the front lifter area. Does that hole get plugged or something else. If it gets plugged do I need to get oil to the chain from the oil galley plug? Just want to make sure I do it right. Thanks, Rick |

Leave that hole open... It's main function is for venting, more than oil return. DD |

Rick, the factory oiled the timing chain, by using a front main bearing with a chamfer on the edge of the bearing shell. It was like a sqirter. Most later produced aftermarket main bearings do not have that chamfer. I always file a chamfer on the edge of the upper shell, from the oil groove to the front of the engine. The factory chamfer was across the complete bearing shell, not just to the front. |

But that hole is close to the bottom of the galley. If I install standpipes, it would seem that it would drain the oil out that hole instead of pooling around the lifters. Thanks for the help.Rick |

I taped and pluged mine, seems to vent just fine and I drilled a small hole in the front of the oil galley plug to oil the chain. Richard |

I have always noticed that the hole was to high for oil drain back. As for oiling, I have drilled a small hole where the gear meets the block into the oil passage. I think I have a picture somewhere. Will |
