Post subject:  aluminum engine question
hey yall i have the oppertunity to buy an aluminum slant 6 block with crank rods pistons and oil pan and some kind of aluminum intake there is no head. my question is will any sl6 head work and what would be a fair offer for this engine it has been in doors since it was pulled and i do not know if it turns over any help would be appreciated thanks

IIRC, you can use any head, but there is a special head gasket that has to be used.

Be very careful to check the tops of the cylinders for corrosion. If the liners are corroded the head gasket will never seal.

Aluminum blocks are usually not worth what people think they are, especially when not complete.

Agreed with Dennis on all points. Any head 64-up should work, with the possible exception of the 81-up hydro heads that may not seal properly against the head gasket. Kanter had some of those gaskets when I last checked (3-5 yrs ago).

I just have to share this with everyone...around 1982 or so, I was scrounging parts in the local wrecking yard...while walking past a bunch of engines that had been removed from various cars, I spotted a HyperPak slant six sitting in the dirt...it was the aluminum block complete with the four barrel intake with the carb and air cleaner intact...I couldn't buy it then...I only had a few dollars in my pocket and I had no place to put it even if I could afford to buy it then...I wonder whatever happened to it.

I saw one of those,, back in 1967,,were made with special aluminum cylinder heads , I had heard that those special aluminum 440 hemi heads, with a few modifications can be adapted to the 225 slant six case, but they are hard to find, the v8 guys bought them all up and wont sell any of them :x

Those a57 multibanks are interesting.

I believe that if one of the 5 engines went out the sun gear arrangement around the central crank allowed the engine to continue running on the other 4 without issues.. just less power.


One of those is in the Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills Michigan.

Says they only sent the A57 equipped tanks to the British. We used V-8 ones. :shock:

I see one model used 2 6-71 Jimmys. I bet those were a joy to be inside or near. :oops:

well i went and looked at it and was in what i would call good shape it was locked the cylinder walls looked good so im going to try soaking it in kroil when i get it home. i payed 120 dollars for it and got a pair of small bolt ralley wheels with it
