I picked up one of these for the Duster. Can you really install the kit without removing the transmission, or is it better to do so?

And just how hard is the install, I haven't installed a shift kit in 30 years and that was a TH400 in a '66 442 using a B&M kit.

All you are doing is changing things in the valve body, why pull trans?

Drop the pan, adjust bands, install kit, refill and enjoy.

Be sure to use a torque wrench, valve bodies are susceptible to warping which causes binding of moving parts and internal leaks from improperly torqued bolts.

The only thing in the main case that needs changed is the low-reverse servo spring. Be sure NOT to mix up the springs in the valve body, as several of them look similar
