I have a 225 with an offenhauser 4bbl intake and a holly 390 cfm 4bbl carb, windage tray, high volume oil pump, comp cam, and ceramic coated combustion chamber and piston tops. It is installed in a 1987 D150 pickup with a 904 tranny and 3:1 rear end gears. It runs like a scalded dog! My problem/question is this, I am currently running the old style (wet plug ) head and am upgradding to the revised combustion chamber head. I have had it shaved .1 inch to raise the compression. I understand that I must now switch to the adjustable rocker arms to correct for rod length, but the adjustible rockers call for a different part number shaft. Can I use mine? also the adjustables call for a differant push rod with two different end sizes. Whats the deal? What do I need to make this set up work? |

The reason behind the problem is that the 87 has hydralic lifters so the pre 80 mechanical rocker arms will not fix this problem. The best thing to do is take a measurment and have a shorter set of push rods made. Call Smith Brothers Pushrods for a set. DD |

Would it be possible to shim the rocker shaft back up to account for the milling, or is that a "band-aid" fix? Would shimming throw the valvetrain geometry out as well? My setup will be very similar to Devo's, and i had planned on ordering shorter pushrods, but am exploring other options as well. |

So, which head is better...the "wet plug" head or the "other" one??? From what year to what year did they run the "wet plug" head? Thanx in advance. -Don |
