Lubed the pushbuttons and they responded for a little while.Got tired of moving park lever and just pushing buttons until it worked. The tranny shop said the cables are good its the springs that are worn out.Are there springs out there or can I go to hardware store and match something ?

Whether it is the cause or not, the bearing grease was a mistake. Any oil or grease acts like a trash magnet and will cause problems, if not immediately, sooner than you want. Pull the pushbutton control unit out again, clean the gunk out of the mechanism and lube with a silicone spray lube that dries DRY.

Before you tear into that push-button assembly I'd look at the end of the cable where it enters the trans and make sure the retaining clip isn't moving on the end of the cable. Mine was and the car would get stuck in reverse and such. A little bending of the clip and all was well.
Well, you've already torn into it and made a mistake anyone could have made. Doesn't make you a knucklehead! I take it you don't have a Factory Service Manual. (I hope I'm wrong) The manual has procedures for servicing the control unit and the tranny end of the shift cable that would seem awfully difficult to guess correctly.

It's working now? Congratulations!! When I took mine out, there was so much junk in it I was surprised that it worked as well as it did. The silicone spray lube idea came from SSDan, glad I could pass it along.
