Driveshaft will need to be shortened about 1-3/4".
If you are lucky your 8-3/4 will have the 7260 yoke on it and your small u-joint will work.
If it has the 7290 yoke there are adapter joints available.

I have a very noisy 7 1/4 and want to replace it with a 8 3/4 rebuilt sure grip that I own. The 8 3/4 has new 10' brakes, shoes and wheel cylinders is complete with new small bolt pattern drums bearings etc. The front of the car has been installed with 10' drums and a dual master cylinder. It is a daily driver. What else do I need to complete the job? |

if this rebuilt 8.75 is the correct length and has the spring perches set to match yours, you will need to shorten your driveshaft and get a rear universal joint that fits the 8.75 yoke. Check here for measurements you'll need ATB BC |

As mentioned the driveshaft is shorter for a car with an 8 3/4 than for one with a 7 1/4. You also need U-bolts and the plates which go under the springs and carry the lower shock mounts. This is due to the 8 3/4 having 3" diameter axle tubes and the 7 1/4 having 2 1/2" tubes. Unless you have a large yoke on the 8 3/4 the U-joints will stay the same. You may need to keep your old parking brake cables. |

A chart have says 2.26 inches--

I always get the new rear installed, then measure-out the needed driveshaft length... There is just too much variation, vehicle to vehicle. DD |
