Post subject:  A833 Trans

Hello,

I have been trying to find information with using a A833 tranny on my slant six and seem to be coming up dry.

Could anyone point me in the direction of a thread which has info on parts required.

I also heard something about feather dusters coming with these but they are quite rare.

Thanks

Post subject:  what do you need?

Start here:

http://www.slantsix.org/articles/4-spee ... speed1.htm

Next you need to figure out what you are going to do:

up to 1974 A-833 or 1975+ A-833 overdrive box...

There are pros and cons to each (A-833 boxes are gettig spendy now...OD version not so much, but a core box will need an overhaul before being used usually).

If you are converting from an automatic (done this a few times):

manual tranny pedal set and clutch linkage from a 1967-1976 A-body
Transmission and Bellhousing (I have a couple fo spare bellhousings for A-833OD if you need one).
Transmission shifter and shift rods (shift boot and bezel are nice to have)
Throwout bearing and clutch fork.
Always good to get new bushings and fork rod than using an old wornout one.
Lastly you will need a transmission tunnel hump to weld or screw and seal in place.

You will need to inspect the rear of the crank to determine if: 1) Your crank has a hole to accept a pilot bushing for the tranny input shaft 2) if the hole is machined or 'rough (if rough you will be getting a special bushing from NAPA and using red loctite to hold it in place).

Thanks! :D I'll take some time to read this and let it soak in. I am considering a swap in the near future once I secure a job before this summer and start making the engineering money haha. Also depends if I have a garage too

Too bad you aren't close by and ready, I may have a spare set of pedals, floor hump, and some "odds and sods" that would take care of the major chunks on the list.
