I went to work on my new 61 valiant yesterday and attempt to get it running . The car has set for about 18 years and the oil pressure relief valve was stuck which exploded the oil filter(this happened the last time i tried to get it running-last week) so after dissasembling the right side of the engine and removing the heater box I replaced the oil pump with a good cleaned pump from a donar slant i have. After reasembling every thing(I had previously rebuilt the carb and replaced plugs, points ,starter and fuel pump)I replaced all the hoses and cranked it with the plugs out to build up oil pressure(I did pack the pump with vaseline). Insalled the plugs, shot a little gas down the carb and IT STARTED AND RAN,Iabout peed on myself. It sounds extremely good and all the guages work but due to needing brake work i havent drove it but i have a new master and wheel cylinders and brake shoes for it so thats my next project.
Also i plan on making a Slanters Sport Compact out of this vehicle(they were after all the first compacts that Chrysler built) and would likr to add a split header(Clifford or Spitfire) and a Hyperpac intake(already sent a money order to Clifford)what I would like to know is can I run this setup on a stock slant and what carb should i use(I do plan on doin a rebuild in the future with headwork and a larger cam so i woul like a carb that would work with a stock slant as well as a litle warmer version). I apolagize for being so long winded but im kinda excited about this project and the fact that there are so many people here that share my admiration for the slant.Thank you very much.

It is a great feeling to get a dorment SL6 running again. :D :D
You have a good build-up plan, keep it simple and build as you go.
More later...
