| Post subject: | How wide can I gap my plugs? |
I'm wondering if I can gap my plugs any wider than the stock .035" now that I have installed an orange box ecu and a Accel super stock coil? Would there be any advantage to this or should it be done at all? Thanks, Sam |

I'm just running a Pertronix and I have mine open to about .50" on both a 383 and a /6. I have heard you can do his and I have had no problem for the past 8 years. I wouldn't want to go much wider than that. Good Luck |

Wow, thats a wider gap than I would have imagined, but it sounds like its working well for you. How is your mileage and performance changed do you think over the narrower gap? I'm looking for the best balance between performance and fuel mileage. |

I doubt that .5 inch was done.....it's probably a typo?....maybe .050? I have HEI & increased the gap on my 65 Dart stock 225 from .035 to .045; that increase caused the plug voltage to spike from 5k to 10k.....see the HEI sticky for the scope readouts. Hopefully your ignition system is peppy enough to handle the increased voltage....including the plug & coil wires. The distributor cap wih reduced gaps is also a consideration. |

I run the orange box and Acel coil in the hpak duster and gap to .040/.042 and work fine with no complaints. -D.idiot |

I'm running .045 with extended tip plugs, pertronix, and low-resistance plug wires. |

Good deal, I think I'll try opening them on up to about .040" and see how they do. Thanks for the responses! Sam |

I'm running .045" with NGK extended tip plugs and a pertronix HEI module and coil with mangecore wires. Mild super six engine with recurved distributor. Greatly improved mileage, cleaner running and better performance over original points system. The oil in this engine stays cleaner for much longer now, which is proof of how much better the combustion process is now! Cheers |

I also run .045 gap with the MOPAR orange box and Pertronix 60,000 volt HEI style coil. MO-3000 rotor, Blue streak cap and 8mm wires. Click on the red link below my name to view pictures. |

Hey Ted, where is the best place to pickup one of those Blue Streak caps and what is the part#? Does Napa carry that and can I run the Mo-3000 rotor with the new cap I have (its the one that DI furnished with recurve)? Thanks for the info! Sam |

CH-410 wherever you can get Standard Motor Products locally. MO-3000 is a crap shoot, some NAPA have them others no loger can get them as they should be. -D.idiot |

I checked online & found that the the MO-3000 rotors sit in the NAPA warehouses.....you need to call your local NAPA and have them job order them to be sure you can get them at pickup. |

I have ordered a spare MO-3000 (3) times now and got short ones. Believe me I complained about their quality control. |

I have a stock distributor in mine right now, I plan on getting a blue streak CH-410, MO3000 rotor, magnecor wires and NGK 6630 plugs. Would I be able to increase the gap past 0.035 with this set up? I want to convert to HEI eventually maybe once my tax return comes in. |
