| Post subject: | Coat Hanger Wire in Water Jacket |
I am hunting down a hi RPM over heating issue on my new '72 225 4 bbl and went to check the tstat. looking inside the water jacket through the tstat hole there are at leat two pieces of wire in there. The one I pulled out was 12" long and was threaded down a water tube. No way this was floating around and got to where it was. the other I can just get a finger on but its lower down in the jacket. Is there any reason beside someone forgeting them in there that there should be coat hanger type wire inthe water jacket? These are not the spring type wire found inside some lower rad hoses. Thanks for the help. |

It is left over from casting just pull it out. Or you might use it to hang a spare shirt or jacket on. Richard |

They were used during the engine casting process. When I rebuilt my engine we pulled out several, infact after soaking the block we ran it through a dishwasher type engine cleaner and got 3 and 1/2 Folgers coffee cans of junk out of the water jacket. Does your block drain plug drain well? or is it plugged? If not, you can be sure your water jacket is pretty clogged. |

"No wire hangers!" Laugh if you know what movie that's from. I will need to pull the block drain plug and see. |
