Post subject:  Fuel pump installation question

Since I will be doing Dan's fuel line mod and installing a brand new carb next week, I might replace the fuel pump as well.

Just to be 100% sure I will be doing it right, in what position should the 2nd cylinder be when installing the new pump? What's the fuel pump lobe phasing on a stock cam?

When you remove the old pump, take a couple of turns on the bolts just to loosen them a little, then rotate the engine (by the fan blades) with one hand on the pump, until you feel that the pump is 'loose' and free of pressure from the cam lobe. Then remove the bolts and the old pump, and mount the new pump.

BTW, there's no need to replace a working pump, if it deliver enough fuel. You can measure the output of the pump, according to the data given in the manual, when the engine is running again. If you have a new pump, keep it stored until you need it.
