I just put the new choke thermostat on and she still won't start. After fooling with it for a while I had key on and turned it over to check for spark on the #1 plug and is there so pulled screw driver out went to push plug on and I hear it constantly sparkling while key is on. What is going on? I am now lost and at my wits end with this car. |

Sounds like the ignition needs some work. Could be in the distributor, but could very likely be the ignition module. Check the ground on the ignition module. Pull it off, clean the mounting surfaces, and remount it. Check the chassis ground. Clean all connectors and test again. If you do a little searching, you will find information about upgrading to HEI. Lot's of dyed in the wool mopar fans fight it, but GM has a much better ignition system. Just make sure your pickup in the distributor is good. I have a lot of room to talk. I run a Mallory Unilite on an aftermarket coil. No ballast resistor, no troubles. But no vacuum advance. I don't street drive it. Much. Not willing to put my trust in forty year old electronics. But then I'm a Twidget. CJ |

this is exactly the same problem I am having with my 86 dodge van but my problem is accompanied by a buzzing in the distributor and when I un hook the connections to the distributor and check them with a check light it causes the coil to dist. wire to arc off of anything close and also to arc from the - and + terminals of the coil to the coil to dist. wire now I am not new at self mechanics but this is unheardof amongst my colleages and I admit I am completely dumbfounded by this so any help would help me also |
