I think you might have created this problem,
the breather and pcv arent hooked up yet
If you get these hocked up you might find the problem.

ok so i have a 71 slant 6 with 55-60k miles on it just bought it from the second owner. it had an exhaust leak from the manifold. i decided to upgrade to a 2bbl so i installed a new exhaust manifold , 2bbl intake, kick down etc. I am having trouble finding how to fit the supersix air cleaner on so in the meantime i wanted to get it moving so i put a cheap air cleaner on and the breather and pcv arent hooked up yet. Ok so the brand new problem : i drove 70 miles and went through 4 quarts of oil. i just changed with penzoil 10w40 and 32 oz lucas. I was not burnig oil before the conversion. any ideas? maybe its obvious? help please thank you |

Better get these hooked up to equalize the pressure in the crank case or it will keep loosing oil.......I did that once and had a similar experience. Pretty surprising.....especially on a new motor!What is wrong with your air cleaner? I am running a super six air cleaner with a Holley 1920. Everything is hooked up too! |

Not possible without an adapter. The carb throat is a different diameter between the 1920 and the BBD or 2280. Stock Super Six air cleaners will only mount correctly without an adapter to Carter BBD or Holley 2280 Carburetors (or some Strombergs, but you never see those). The Super Six air cleaner is designed to mount on the carb with the snorkel pointed towards the battery. Your 71 Dart may have had the snorkel pointed to the other side of the engine compartment. The Super Six air cleaner will not sit properly on the carb unless the snorkel is oriented properly. |

Just use a base off a truck 1980 up Holley 1945 air cleaner with the smaller diameter base. It and the Super Six set up are the same using the cold air intake and hot manifold air but with different base diameters. I rotated mine a little more to the front for the cold ram air intake. No adapter required. |

ok i was my error i had the vent from the fuel pump on vacuum and it sucked the oil from the crankcase everytime i put a load on it- the pcv was supposed to go there- thats what i get when i try and work with my daughter around Still have the air cleaner problem i have ac and the rear suction hose with the muffler is too much to fit the super six air cleaner |
