Clifford shorty headers for high starter location (standard car starter location). Looks like good shape. Lou |

FYI, the Clifford shorty headers wil not fit a 170 engine, without modifying. They will not fit a 225 engine with power steering in a 66 or older "A" body, without modifying. |

What kind of modifications are needed?

The front collector hits the power steering box. I cut the #1 & #3 tubes. Then cut a "V" in the #2 tube, and bend the tube to raise the collector up. Then a little heat on the other tubes to get them to bend, so the ends will line up, then reweld. I also put some "Firesleeve" on the PS hose, as it is very close to the pipes. Basically the same mods need to be done with a 170 and manual steering. Also the water pump rib on a 170 might need to be ground down a little. Depends on tolerance. I have not tried a 170 with PS. I really don't think it would be as easy. |

Not any more, to my knowledge. At one time Clifford made long tube headers for just about any slant six application, you could think of. These older headers show up once in a while. The hardest header to find is for the 170, in any body style.

Can I use these headers with a Stock one barrel Carb intake? |

Yes, but you will not have any intake manifold heat. Also will not have auto choke, unless you get a aftermarket electric choke kit. |

I was wondering about the manifold heat. But didn't want to sound stupid!...
