I have a rebuilt 225 and dropped tranny off to be rebuilt ,its not a 904 but a 727 .This will be matched up with my 8 3/4 suregrip rear .Is this a good combo to keep those riceboys at bay ?John [/quote]

It depends. If your 225 is stock or near stock, then it'll be a durable-but-unexciting powetrain. If your 225 has a turbo/blower & makes 300+ hp then you'll smack the imports around(maybe).

The 727 & 8-3/4 are what chrysler put behind big blocks- so they are tough but weigh alot & suck up a fair amount of power. The 8-3/4 is handy if you want to swap out the "pig" to change ratios. If speed is your primary concern, a "built" 904 will go quicker as will a 8-1/4 (if you're careful a 7-1/4 might last).

Thanks thought maybe I had a good combo for showing them the pecking order. On the freeway its a different story they have no chance even with that messed up 727.Cant coplain ,paid 500 for 225 thats rebuilt and 600 to get tranny rebuilt. The 1100 I paid for the car and my blood n sweat will be happy with that and have to turn the other cheek unless they follow me onto the freeway

The 8 3/4" will allow for ratio changes, and won't have the C-clips shear off the axle ends if playing James Bond/Bullitt with it...it is also very durable as axles go with lots of good gearing options if you change your build.

The 904 can be built to withstand high HP 340/360 builds when done correctly, the 727 will withstand even more- but as stated it's a little slow shifting and does eat some power to keep the internals moving, comparatively.

Just as an FYI, you will need to build Lou's Turbo Dart build to pull an even time with a stock Honda V-6 Accord...My buddy from High School has been Div.6 champ a few times in his modified Civic (with factory supported parts he's into the 12's with no adders...).

So make sure this one lasts for fun, then pic up a spare block and start using the search function and pencil and start thinking about that $2000+ engine build...
