Post subject:  Replacing Carb/Intake/Exhaust

hello all,

so I got the Dutra Duals that I ordered (and they are just beautiful) along with a Super 6 Intake/kickdown linkage/carb adapter/gaskets/and a Holley 2300 Carburetor. Mainly, since I am new to the Slant 6 scene, I would like to hear any tips that you fellas have regarding troubles I may encounter during the removal/installation. I am in the process of removing the intake manifold and I removed the intake-to-head nuts, 3 intake-to-exhaust-nuts, and the carburetor but it is still on there pretty good. I'm thinking I'm either missing a connection somewhere or its just a stubborn old manifold since it hasn't been removed in the 40 years that its be around.

Pull the exhaust pipe off the manifold, pull the hoses from the carb and wires to the manifold, then pull the nuts and triangle washers and take the stack off wholesale.

hm. I suppose that would make life easier. will a socket fit into the tight area that the exhaust manifold studs are located? seems like a very tight fit.

I use a 1/4" drive deep socket and 18" extension to get to the two studs by the exhaust 'stove'...the rest can be had with a 1/2" socket 3/8" drive with 12" extension.

Apply PB blaster 48 hours before removal and twice daily before the operation.

that PB Blaster isn't a joke. those 40 year old bolts came off like it was nothing.
