I have done searches and found bits of information, but this seems strange. With the car running in neutral the trans. fluid checks perfect(just over 16 pints)and does not leak. Turn the car off, and a few minutes later it starts to leak from the dipstick tube, and it looks like it is coming out of the bolt that holds the tube to the transmission?(or the base of the bolt)
I have a New o-ring on the tube and I have switched the bolt out with one off another trans. (1964 Dart GT 225 Bone Stock w/ original radiator))
How high(up the tube) should the fluid get when the car is off?
I am wishing I put a pan with a drain plug on it now! :(

A different dipstick tube and new O-ring (NAPA ATP 13901, IIRC) finally sealed the long-term leak my '64 had. The old tube had a leak where the tab was spot welded, and the area where the O-ring sits was misshapen.

Are you checking the fluid level when the transmission is hot and in neutral ?

well, the threads for the bolt that hold the dipstick tube in are GONE!
It must have been just catching the last shred of threads, and fluid is coming out of the bolt hole.
Has anyone ever dealt with this? I was thinking about taking a long enough bolt to go all the way through and have a nut on the pan side. Any help or ideas are appreciated.

A lot of the later transmissions only have the O-ring seal with just the tab bolted to the bell housing. Why not just plug up the striped out hole?

this has the tab to the transmission and the tab to the bellhousing, I may just end up plugging it.

Replaced the trans dipstick tube with another one I had, and I put (2) O-rings on it, a dab of RTV and no more leak. I ran the 2" bolt all the way down through the tab on the dipstick tube and put a nut on the pan side, worked fine!
