| Post subject: | Leaking oil--gasket set |
Hey guys, I'm going to be pulling the engine out of my truck soon to replace the rear main and pan seal because there is oil and grime all around that area. Are there any other gaskets I should replace to ensure that I do get the leak stopped? Also, while the engine is out, is there anything I should do in terms of maintenance or checks that would be easier to do while I have the engine on a stand? Thanks! |

Pretty much if doing a rear main out of the car, you'll be doing the pan gasket and timing cover gasket (good time to replace it if it's floppy). If the price of individual gaskets starts to approach getting a full gasket set, you could also replace the fuel pump gasket, timing cover damper seal as well. -D.Idiot |

I'll probably just go with a kit--it's going to be close to the same price to get everything. Thoughts on this though: This kit is about 50 dollars http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1084384 and this one is about 70 http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1084384 What are the differences between the two kits? Is there anything crucial missing from the first kit? I don't know much about engine internals, but I can see that the second kit has an egr valve gasket and two gaskets that I don't recognize. |
