74 dodge Dart 225 auto, reman carb from rock auto , plugs, wires, cap and button running but still a miss pulled valve cover to find bent rod, pulled it apart pulled head replaced rod and all gaskets fresh fluids go to start it and no go only way she will start and run is if I lightly sit there and pump the gas. I am unsure of what to try now I went through and checked all vacuum lines all to no avail I just want to get her running and I know I am so close now just don't know what to do now so any help and suggestions would be great. Could it be a timing issue since distributer was pulled? Not sure if I set it up right but I lined timing marks to TDC and put distributer in with button pointing to number one cylinder. |

I recently installed a new distributor and had a similar problem, line your timing marks up with the number one piston on TDC compression stroke. Then point your distributor at number one plug wire on the cap. If its hard to get the distributor in lined up advance it cw a little to get it to slide in, not ccw as this retards the timing and it will it crank or may run bad or backfire. This worked for me, I was able to get the motor started and then set the timing to spec on the harmonic balancer and timing mark in the tab....... |

Timing was a pain in the ass for me, but finally got it. Here's what worked. Turn the crank by hand to get to TDC. Check for air coming out of spark plug hole #1 with your finger to find compression stroke. If you're sure it's set right where it needs to be, it could be flooded. Check to see if your spark plugs are wet, and then dry them off or let it sit. Hold down the accelerator when trying to start it, and that will stop new gas from flowing in. |
