Post subject:  225 intake

I have a customer with an '85 D100 equipped with a slant 6 & single barrel carb. This is a 1 owner truck (nothing has been changed or altered). His intake casting reads 4100448-1. I ordered a used intake (also from an '85 D100) with same casting number except ends in -2 instead of -1. My customer (a reputable competent shop) says the exhaust ports don't line up (says they are 1/4" off). Any ideas? Which casting numbers are suitable for this application? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

you replaced the intake and now the exhaust doesn't line up? :? but it lined up before? how long have the manifolds been off the truck? weeks, months, years? has it been running?

The shop removed the original intake this week (truck was running and driving-complaint was cracked manifold). I do not know how long the used manifold ordered for a replacement had been off of a vehicle.

I would verify that the shop followed the correct and somewhat picky slant six manifold installation procedure. See HERE.

Since the slant is a long inline engine, it is not uncommon for the exhaust manifolds to warp into a "smile." Can you give further detail about the manner in which the exhaust ports were 1/4 inch off?

Unusual to have a cracked intake (unless aluminum manifold). Cracked exhaust is common. Are you sure it was the intake that was changed? That casting number, you listed is for an exhaust manifold. A used exhaust manifold is a crap shoot. They need to be checked for warp before installing. Might be best to order a new replacement manifold.
