I am switching out a slant 6 and 4 spd tranny on a 1960 Dodge D100 pickup.
Questions:
1. Is the bell housing special for a hydraulic clutch. (The unit that I am installing came from a non hydraulic clutch unit.)
2. What years of D100 pickup used the hydraulic clutch?
Thanks, Lew

If the bellhousing is the early type where the cylinder and fork are on the passenger side of the bell then yes it's for the hydraulic setup. If it is the later setup where the fork is on the driver's side of the bell then it could be either....

Dodge trucks could have the hydraulic clutch for the NP-435 4 spd and some 3 spd equipped trucks up through the 1980's....so if you are keeping the hydraulic clutch, with some work and head scratching you should be able to convert the old assembly to the new setup.

That being said the bellhousing went through a few changes through the 70's and if your truck is the early type where the bellhousing has a set of ears that bolt to a set of rubber mounts attached to the frame and has no tranny crossmember for the tailshaft, then to make a late bellhousing work properly you will need to fab and install a tranny crossmember for the tailshaft mount. Also If the new bell is for a A-822/A-833/A-833OD tranny and your truck is equipped with the NP235/435 they will not work together.

You'll be scouring junkyards looking for a 60's-80's NP-435 equipped truck with no Z-bar and what looks to be a second master cylinder on the firewall connected to the clutch pedal.
