Would a v8 84 360 long block with a 727 tranny fit in my 1969 dart that recently had a slant six? Help I got a good deal on the price n wonder if it will work:/ |

You will need: Better torsion bars Better front brakes if not disc equipped. New rear axle Conversion engine mounts to convert to the V-8 (or if doing the hard way, a V-8 K-member with 1967-1972 motor mounts). -D.Idiot |

Oh, and a new slip yoke for that as 727 is bigger than 904...-D.idiot |

And a slant six site probably isn't the best place to ask about replacing a slant six with a V-8... |

WHY would you do that? Is it that important to be like everyone else? Quote: Would a v8 84 360 long block with a 727 tranny fit in my 1969 dart that recently had a slant six? Help I got a good deal on the price n wonder if it will work:/

These are are valid answers to the initial question. Swapping a v-8 in place of a slant six is more complex than it sounds, especially if you want the car to be reliable and safe to drive. |

Also the 360 even in 2 barrel format will provide about 1/2 the mileage the slant six did, so a $150 long block and tranny combo will be shelling out about 9-13 mpg on a regular basis... So what's cheap now will not pay back in the long run... -D.Idiot |

The just wondering department: Why use last century’s technology? This is the V8 road I would take: Just drop in a Gen III Hemi and drive train with all the electronic fix’ins, and get better fuel economy than 53 year old slant architecture is capable of, and tire roasting performance… Oh, and the complexity of this project will be exponentially several notches over an old 360 transplant… Or, for exceptional fuel sipping, light, powerful combo, dump in a Pentastar V6 with an 8 speed. How do I know this, my 4200 pound 300C AWD gets 24 mpg on the interstate, my Dart’s best is 18.5 mpg at a tick over 3000 lb. The above same 2+ ton tank with a Pentastar in it runs into the 30 mpg range. |

This is the real killer is the late motor mounts are not like the older motor mounts, I think E-berg wrote an interesting article on it and some now has conversion mounts but again $$$...I also read same author's late hemi swap and although straight forward, lots of wire chasing is required.Quote: How do I know this, my 4200 pound 300C AWD gets 24 mpg on the interstate, my Dart’s best is 18.5 mpg at a tick over 3000 lb. That's and apples and oranges comparison...convert your slant to EFI and put an OD transmission behind it and then you can square up the comparison...given what Lou has done( and I'm sure there's more in there), both would be equal in mpg.-D.Idiot |
