I have a 68 barracuda fastback, I am interested in putting a slant six in the canned tuna, the k member I have now is a spool type. not sure if its for a big block or small block. anyways, will a slant six fit on this spool k member? |

The engine will fit, but you are on your own to make a set of conversion motor mounts...since the hobby is more interested in putting the V-8 into the /6 car, and very few are interested in going in reverse, no one commercially makes the adapter to do it. If you have some angle or box iron and a welder you should be able to come up with a work around...otherwise you are left with swapping in a /6 K-member. -D.Idiot |

No...The 1967-1972 K-member could be overcome by some simple modifications like that or use of a set of /6 truck mounts, but the /6 1973-1976 K-member is purpose built for that engine only in stock form, the driver's side cradle is quite a few inches taller than the passenger side cradle, on the V-8 K they are the same height...the driver's side mount on the /6 doesn't make up that extra bit the K-member does... he would have to cut off the mount and extend a few inches in height, or make a cradle adapter to bolt through the V-8 cradle and then receive the end of the /6 motor mount. This picture will show what he needs, note the driver's side mount by the steering box mount is higher, the V-8 K would have mounts similar to the passenger side mount but on both sides... ![]() -D.Idiot |

Just out of curiosity (I know), would the V8 K member be worth enough to sell or swap for a \6 one? |

If it was a big block MP K-member, then yes...if a small block, then possibly, it depends on the demand in the area but with conversion mounts available people don't need the PITA it is to swap out the /6 K-member anymore, they just swap the bars and work brakes/suspension items and are done with the upgrade.-D.Idiot |

I bought a slant spool mount K for $25. I was wanting to swap it for a spool small block K. I tried to swap it for a SB one. I had lots of takers, just none close by. There is poly mounts out there for the spools! Being in CA I would post on Moparts and bet you find many who will swap with you! Edit: don't forget the spool tranny mount too! |

I did this in the past by making-up special spool mounts for the SL6. The car was also a 68 Barracuda that we used for drag racing. We would swap between the SL6 and a 440 V 8 engine... a number of time per season. We "messed" with the heads of a lot of people at the track... by running the car and "showing-off" the Slant Six, as it ran high 13's and then running low 12's in the same car, the next week! DD See this photo for the left side spool mount. (real long, to reach down to the V 8 location)

Thanks Doc! I was wondering about using the K member from the Street/Ruster/ChumpCar Duster... It's a SL6 K modified for the Schumacker V8 kit... Instead of re-reworking the K member, I can just extend the mount bracket. Schweeeet! |

Looks like you need 2 old spool mounts, and a buddy with a cut off wheel and a high power outlet for his welder and it's golden...(Also helps to bring a 6 pack as payment too...LOL). -D.Idiot |
