Post subject:  What did I get? e-Distributor

So I found an eBay auction for an electronic distributor and supposedly ordered D.Idiot's recommendation: 1st choice: 1977-1980 super six PN:3874876 .

Check out what I received below. 1) Nowhere on it is part number 3874876. The tag states 4091902. 2) Even if this is the right distributor, I can't see how it would stay in place, unless it's supposed to be another press-fit with the rubber o-ring as the main anchor. 3) main shaft looks way too long and has no drive gear. More like a flathead screw driver on the end.

Did I just get the wrong part, or does the 3874876 just look different and require some tweaking? Original points distributor is on the left.

Post subject:  You got screwed...

That's a V-8 EI distributor and is not compatible with our engine at this time.
The tag would have been stamped 3874876 not 4091902, the part number suggests it about a 1979 (whether the distributor is actually a 4091902 can be up for debate).

Time to get the right one from the vendor, or get a full refund plus return shipping, it's not even close for your application.

Man, this is why it pays to be a walking parts catalog. The above URL blatantly lists the part number, the tag on the distributor doesn't even match!
And he has it listed for a 318 as well (that gear ain't gonna work!)
The part number corresponds to a 225 distributor for canada only 1 barrel cars, looks like the governor is a 13R so not a desired candidate.

These look nice, too bad he didn't list the tag number for a quick sale and better pricing, if they are 'desireable'.

Let me know how your return goes...hopefully he honors it and doesn't try to goof you out of your dough. :x

Thanks D.I. Yes, I'll let you know how it turns out. Any potential issue using my Standard Bluestreak CH-410X distributor cap with the extended tip rotor on this e-Distributor (the right one which I'll get from the seller)?

Post subject:  Nope..

You shouldn't have a problem with that combination, though I would "wiggle" the shaft and see if it has any give to it. If the shaft/bushings are really worn then the extended tip can contact the cap contacts and well...

Well, here's what I ended up with. NOT part #:3874876. I honestly don't know exactly what number this distributor is, as there are at least two numbers shown. It says #3874929 on the vacuum pod, and on the tag, but the embossed housing shows #3656886-1. Well, whatever it is, it's in decent shape with no play or wiggle. Any way to tell for sure? What's the best application for this distributor?
