I know everydody says to put a fuel filter on the purge port when putting later carb on earlier car without canister, but is there a way to eliminate the port altogether?

I've been keeping an eye out for 70 & earlier cores to rebuild, but have had little luck (even ones that came off of appropriatly dated cars were still newer carbs w/purge port).

Are there parts I can leave off during rebuild, then tap and plug the hole without affecting carb function?

i just rebuilt my carb today and the bowl vent that goes inside the venturi and the purge tube are connected to the same area. only difference is that the little valve at the top closes the purge port with throttle applied so you can just cap it and be done...
