Is the aussie permaseal gasket thicker than the steel shim one? Anyone used one with boost? |

Permaseal is about 0.045" compressed, compared to 0.020" compressed for OEM shim steel. Boost up to 9.5 psi and 330-340 crank HP for me with Permaseal. Lou |

Copper gaskets do not really compress. They are solid. They are usually custom ordered in whatever thickness, and bore size is desired. |

Would you lose some compression from the permaseal vs the steel shim? or is the size difference so small that it is insignificant... -Ryan |

Remember it's volume so how much it affects your build is dependent on your target compression ratio...if 8:1 SCR with a shim gasket it's just a smidge of loss ...if you've cut the deck and head heavily to get 12:1 compression that can knock you back to 11.5:1 if you didn't factor the head gasket in...Time to break out the calculator and determine the volume of both gaskets compressed so you can figure out your build. -D.Idiot |

This is simple geometry of a cylinder.... Area of a circle x the height = volume, then convert to CC so everything is in the same measurement. Pi * ( radius squared) = Area of a circle Measure compression heights for head gaskets for their volumes. SCR is computed at swept volumes so you need the volume of the bore with piston at TDC, and at BDC.... You can also use an online compression calculator to do the same thing but vary the head gasket compression height.... -D.Idiot |
