1. Does anyone know the torque of the rocket arm shaft bolts? I could not find it anywhere.

2. I am not getting the tire smoking take offs like I expected. I am thinking maybe my kickdown linkage? Does that seem possible? If so I have it set so there is always tension on it. Should it be slightly engaged? Does it need to move completely (from rest to full on) in order to engage properly?

Rocker shaft bolts: 25 foot/pounds (source: 1966 FSM)

The torque spec is found in the rocker shaft assembly procedure text, but not in the engine spec section.

Thank you Red. I see why I could not find it. I use the manual mostly for the specs. I have found to many times the FSM suggests methods with specialty tools that I do not own or have.

On a completely stock all original vehicle, the correct way to set your kickdown linkage on an automatic transmission is to make sure the throttle is completely closed and of the fast idle cam and then loosen the adjuster bolt so the kickdown arm on the transmission is all the way forward. That being said, at this late date very few slant six vehicles on the road still have unmolested original kickdown linkages or even original carburetors. If you or a previous owner have changed the kickdown and/or carburetor, the best way to set up the kickdown is to have someone hold the throttle all the way open and then adjust the arm on the transmission so it it all the way towards the rear of the vehicle.

I reset the transmission kickdown tonight. What I did is had the wife sit in the drivers seat and hit the accelerator to the floor. Then I pulled on the kickdown cable and took ALL the slack out and tightened the stop back down.

How will I know if it is working right? I assume when I hit the accelerator I should feel the car take off?

Acceleration should be better and it should drop into passing gear better. Do you have part-throttle kick down?

There is definitely much more tension at all times. If the accelerator is at rest there is about 1/2 - 3/4 of inch pull on the kickdown. Then at full acceleration is moves the full 2.5 - 3 inches of movement. That sound about right?
