Post subject:  Started, but there's some carb issue

The rebuilt '63 225 started finally, but there are issues at the carb. The fuel pump is pumping and there's a good amount of pressurized fuel at the bowl.

I can pour fuel down the neck of the carb and it'll start and run well for a few moments, then die. If I 'pump' the gas, it'll try to start, but won't catch.

Do I have a clog somewhere in my carb? It seems as though I may need to pull it apart to inspect the innards. It was sitting on a shelf while I did my rebuild. Idiot that I am, I did not bag it to make sure 1) it did not dry out inside, and 2) no critters could crawl in.

Please advise if there's something simpler I may try, other than pulling the carb apart for inspection/cleaning, etc.

Detach the fuel line from the carb and put the end in a gas can or other suitable container. Crank the engine over for a bit and make sure you have good fuel flow to the carb. If the fuel flow is good, then you need to check all the settings on the carb and then pull it and clear out all the passages.

Try pulling the float check valve maybe it has stuck.
