How do you remove the rear pinion seal?? I am replacing the pinion seal in my 63 Valiant. I am trying to save the leaky 7 ¼ rear until I get everything together for a swap. I have removed the yoke. It looks like is should be smooth sailing from here if I could just get the seal out. I have tried to use a large screwdriver. That just sort of bends the seal. I have tried to use a small screwdriver. That just sort of bent the screwdriver. I just can’t get the thing to budge. It’s the older seal with what looks like leather instead of rubber. Any tips here would be appreciated. Thanks, John Killin |

I was able to get seal out last night. I used a "seal puller" that I got at Discount auto. Go figure. I just need to reconnect the drive shaft and add new fluid and I should be good to go. John Killin |

Good work John, I will have to go look at one of these "seal pullers", most of the time I just mangle the old seal with a punch or screw driver to get it out. DD |

I had a bad experience with one of those seal pullers. Gives me the willies to think about it. |

The puller looks like a screwdriver with a hook on the end. Just wedge the point under and pry. Mangle is the key word here. The seal was definitely mangled. The puller just gives a bit more mechanical advantage than I was getting from the screwdriver. I tend to get nervous when and am applying what feels like excessive force with out results. Once it was ready to go, it popped right out (about 3 feet). John |
