My original diff was in desperate need of new bearings (starting to sound like a Cessna Engine back there!!) I Purchased a used Sure Grip, and swapped it. Is it normal for a Sure Grip to Whine on accelleration? I've never driven with one before, so I have no point of Reference. If not, is there a fix? |

A gear whine is caused by incorrect gear mesh. (or worn gears) You may need to "lap-in" the used tooth surface and reset the mesh. A carrier change can upset the backlash enough to require new shims for the carrier or the pinion depth. Is this a 8 3/4?? DD |

I agree w/ Doc. Put some kind of marking paint on the teeth, load the side of the diff, crank the pinion around by hand and chk your tooth mesh pattern. this will point you in the direction to move the gears to get proper mesh. Get yourself a service manual, and follow the directions to the letter. |
