I think you will need to make adapters, but I'm not sure. Lou |

I just happen to have one of those transmissions, and a bell housing for a slant 4 speed, out in the garage. If no one replies with a definate yes, or no, I will pull them out this weekend, and see if they will work together. |

I have never tried this swap but I would think the bolt pattern would be different as well as the size of the bearing retainer that locates into the bellhousing. I think someone once told me that the input shaft on this tranny was about 1 inch shorter then an 833 or 945 3-speed DD |

I would appreciate that Charrlie_S. Is this a reliable trans or would it be better used as a boat anchor? I have heard everything from "it's not bad" to "it's junk!" THANKS, B.S.C. |

If the rest of things line up, but the input shaft is short, then I have a simple solution to that part (collar pressed into crank hub w/pilot brng pressed into collar). My T5 input is just about 1" shorter than the 833, if you include my adapter plate thickness. Lou |

Both transmissions are halfway buried, and still have bell housings on them. But I did a tape measurement. The 5 speed input shaft, is indeed about 1 inch shorter. But by eyeball, it looks like the Slant belhousing might able to be modified to take the 5 speed. You have me curious. Will try to dig them out this week, and remove the bellhousings, and see if it could be doable. |

Input shaft on the 5 spd is about 1 inch shorter then the 4 speed. Bearing retainer size fits the slant six 4 spd bellhousing hole. The 4 mounting holes in the 5 spd trans are right on the edge of the mounting surface of the 4 spd bellhousing. about half the hole is exposed on all four holes. I suppose it would be possible to build up the area with weld, and redrill and tap. It would not be possible to use the 5 spd hydraulic T.O. bearing setup. I think it would be easier and better to use the complete 5 spd trans, bellhousing, T.O. bearing assy, by finding/making an adapter to go from the slant six block to "A" motor bellhousing. These adapters were used in the sixties, to adapt the slant six to the 727 Torqueflite. There has been discussion on the site about reproducing these adapters. |
