Post subject:  "Pop! Clanga clang clang clang" sound from the rea

Last week I was on the freeway and I heard a loud popping sound, then what sounded like I had a bag with a rock in it stuck to a wheel the sound did not fallow tire speed or engine RPM so I think it is the tranny "Lop lop lop lop". I pulled over and checked under the car, and nothing was out of place.

Some days I will make my commute without incident, sometimes I will hear the sound. I avoid the freeway, and I usually only experience the sound when decelerating from over 45 MPH.

Pull the rear axle cover and see if you've broken a spider or side gear.

"Doc... it hurts when I do this..."

- Doc's answer: Don't do that...

Joking aside... Check u-joints first. If the u-joints are OK, then pull the diff. cover.
