So I have a 64 Valiant with the 7 1/4 in it. I also have a spare rear from 1970 Duster, both are 3.23 gear and 9 inch drum rears. Do they have any differences? I've heard the 73 and ups have bigger bearings I have a set of 3.55 out of 64 7 1/4 and a late 60's sure grip for a 7 1/4 I would like to use. Just seeing which one put my parts in. The car is a stock slant six, 4 spd daily driver. So no drag strip launches. So it "should" live. |

The '73+ rears with the big bolt pattern have bigger wheel bearings in them, but I believe the guts are the same. |

Not sure what year they changed, but the early suregrips were clutch type and the later ones were cone type. The clutch type are more desirable because they have 4 spider gears (stronger) and the cone type only have two spiders. |
