Hello, I started dismantling my slant six and found out that camshaft had following markings on its front head, two C letters going bit on top of each other and two sets of letters and numbers, 268H10 on top and Z1888 on bottom. Could someone help identifying what kind of cam it is?

Thanks, Patse

CC sounds like Comp Cams. 268H10 is from their High Energy series of lobes, 268° duration and meant for a hydraulic lifter. Do you have an adjustable valve train? If so it won't feed oil to the lifters as the slant-six-specific hydraulic lifters are fed from the top where as most are fed from the side. I'd call or email Comp and give them the numbers you give here to see if you can get the full specifications.

Allright, thanks. The valvetrain is adjustable, but it does seem to have solid lifters instead of hydraulics, does it affect some way to function of cam or valvetrain?

Yes. Hydraulic lobe profiles have very short lash ramps. Lash ramps are the slow, initial opening rate meant to take up the slack in the valve train. This slack exists even with hydraulic lifters so the lash ramps are there to keep noise to a minimum. Solid lifter profiles have longer lash ramps and are therefore more forgiving to variations in lash. With that cam I'd expect use about .007" intake clearance and .009-.011" on the exhaust. Much more than that and it's likely to be rather noisy.

I wonder if Clifford sold this cam. They have become infamous for selling hydraulic cams to people without hydraulic valve gear.
