Hi all. I am the newly proud owner of a straight and rust free 1977 Volare coupe. It has what is called a "Super Six". I have been debating back and forth betweeen pulling it and building a 360 or keeping with the slant and building it as much as possible....just to be different. I have built many engines over the years, mostly big diesels ( Cummins, CAT, Detriot, etc), but have also built a batch of V8s ranging from mild street mopars to bracket-race 500hp SBC's. I have never tried to build a gas 6. As I read the various articles, I am concluding that it takes alot to build a fast naturally aspirated slant 6 street car ( 14's or lower). 14's are no sweat with an "economy-built performance" V8. If I build the slanter I plan on keeping it pretty simple and streetable, but hopefully fairly quick. Plan at this time ( please critique and estimate performance): Headwork: oversize valves, mill .100, port and bowl blend, polish on exhaust side, rough grind on intake side. Cam: 450-470 lift, 230 or so @.050 Stock block, rods and crank. Pistons, not sure and will need advice on this. Thinking the wiseco 10:1 forged, but if I can get a similar result for less $$$ then I will go that route. Shorter ram four barrel manifold and 500 cfm Holley. Headers into y-pipe and single 3" outlet exiting front of rear tires. Maybe 100HP shot enrty-level Nitrous. 323 or 355 gears and locker 8.25 rear axle.Advise. "Almost stock" shift-kitted 904 with 2000 stall convertor. Thoughts? What about tire size? |

Welcome , and I dont know all your answers. All in what you want. I am building my version of a street slant. I know that head flow is most of it...and the thickness of your wallet. I built a drag slant that will run in the twelves, so milage was never a concern. You just going to make a fun weekend car, I like the idea of a warmed up slant.Your build sounds like a good plan to me.I dont remember if you had gears listed in the build.I just built a 3:55 sure grip for my wifes little Valiant, and it woke it up some. Again, Welcome.....and hope you can post some pics, and get more ideas. Andrew/Kidd |

Welcome to the Forum! Swapping to a V8 in a Slant car is costly$$$, and not nearly as Cool!
