What would be a good streetable cam for a 225 with a stock head(shaved .050) and stock bottom end with a Hyper-pac and split header? This will be going in a 60 Valiant with a 3spd manual(for now-hope to be a 5spd soon)and 3.55 gears. This will be a 3 season daily driver so mileage is somewhat of a concern but performance is first. The carb will be a 450 vacumm secondary holley. Any and all suggestions are apprciated.
Thanks ,Mark

Not knowing exactly what your driving habits and tuning ability is, I'd say something like the Isky 264 would be a good cam. I have heard that one run and it gives a good mix of perf and mileage. If you decide to get into headwork and don't mind a bumpier cam, get something bigger like a 230-240 deg @ 0.050" cam.

FYI, a big cam does not necessarily kill mileage. My '64 Dart has a 0.540"/290 deg cam and it is getting 24 MPG hwy at 75 MPH with the 5spd (2.46 final drive ratio). It is a matter of matching components. You are, however, safer in terms of mileage and driveability with a smaller cam, and that Isky is a solid jump up from stock.

Thanks Dart270,
My driving habits range from "drive it like you stole it" to a 150 mile hiway criuse to Pigen Forge but I also like burning up the mountain roads around here and i like alot of torque coming out of the curves. Drag racing is not a huge concern but i would like to post respectable for my combination.
thank you,Mark

BTW, My tuning skils are pretty good and I am fairly knowledgable on holley carbs and also extremely mechanicaly inclined(Ive built alot of hot rods-all mopar but not /6's), so if you can suggest or explain somthing to me I can more than likely do it.

Mark,

Sounds like we have some similar tastes. If you have not done so already, you might check out the buildup saga of my two Darts.
